JEREMIAH NEEDHAM, 1946-2013
| Jeremiah "Jerry" Needham
was born on August 29, 1946. Jerry had an unmatched joie de vivre. He was the
perennial Peter Pan and he retained his youthful looks until he passed away
prematurely on November 9, 2013.
On Thursday, November 7, 2013, Jerry and
his son, Christopher, were out riding bikes in Key West, when Jerry was hit by a
car. According to his wife, Nancy, Jerry must have blacked out because he rode
into his son and then flew off the bike, but his hands were at his side, not out
in front as if to brace himself from a fall. Jerry suffered a fractured skull and
broken facial bones. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami in
very serious condition. He fell into a coma for a few days before he passed away
on Saturday, November 9, 2013.
After high school, Jerry joined the U.S. Air
Force and made it his career. He remained a member of the Air Force Association
all his life. After he retired from the air force, he worked for ITT as a defense
contractor.
Jerry loved cars and was a member of
many car clubs. He especially liked little 2-seater sport cars and had a great
collection of British sports cars. More recently, in 2012, while mullimg over his
financial situation for retirement, Jerry decided that what his IRA really needed
was a unique investment, so he bought a really old Ford truck.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Nancy, a daughter Carrie (Brian) Grad, two sons
Jeremiah (Sarah) Needham, III, and Christopher (Elizabeth) Needham, his mother,
Anne Needham, his sisters, Ronnie (H.J.) Lamb, Eileen (Joseph) McCall, and Louise
(Ed) Burns, grandchildren, Johnathan, Lauren, Zoe, Brayden and Ashby, and a host
of other family members and many friends.
A vigil service was held
Friday, November 13, 2013, at 5:30 pm at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home and Crematory, 1221 N. 16th St,
Council Bluffs, IA. It was followed by visitation until 8:00 pm. A Mass of
Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, November 13, 2013, at 10:00 am at St.
Peters Catholic Church, 1 Bluff Street Council Bluffs, IA. Interment followed in
the Garner Township Cemetery, 1372 Jennings Ave, Council Bluffs, IA. See
